On Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th we held an Art Gallery in the school hall to celebrate the children's, throughout the school, hard work and efforts during Art Week.
The children, in year 2, really enjoyed looking at their own contributions to their class display, but also liked looking at other classes work and what was going on around school during Art Week.
Year 2's chosen Artist was the Brazilian pop artist Romero Britto. We chose Romero Britto because his work had a loose link with our 'Disney topic' from this term as he created Disney sculptures with bright, bold patterns on them. Also the children liked how his art work was: fun, bright and abstract these were the main reasons for choosing the artist we did. The children noticed how many of his pieces of art work looked a little like 'stained glass windows,' with thick black lines separating colours and patterns giving it a cartoon effect.
Romero Britto painted much of his work, however in year 2 we decided to recreate his work using different media. We used: crayon and fine line pens to achieve accurate, careful patterns. Then we used water colours to make our detailed work stand out on a bright background.
Take a look at our lovely pieces of art work.
We sent each piece of art work home with your child on Friday, we hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed making them!
