Shirebrook Library Visits

We have been lucky enough to organise some visits to Shirebrook Library in the coming weeks.  Each class will take it in turns to visit the library, learn some library skills and have the opportunity to borrow some books.  If all goes well, each class should have three visits before the end of the school year.

If your child is not already a member of Derbyshire Libraries, they can become one in one of the following ways.

  • Pupils can go to the library with their parent or guardian.  The parent or guardian would need to take with them some letter or document that has their name and address on.
  • Customers can now sign up on-line at the following link https://www.derbyshire.gov.uk/leisure/libraries/using-your-library/joining/joining-the-library.aspx Their library card will be posted out to them which they should receive within 10 working days.
  • A manual registration form can be collected and returned to the school office.  We can then check your details on our system and send the forms to the library for you.

More information will be sent home in a letter nearer to the time of your child's visit but some of these methods may take a couple of weeks before the library card is delivered to you so if you want your child to register, please choose one of the methods above to get the card as soon as possible.

Year 2 - Art

Over the last few day Year 2 have been looking at the artist Johannes Vermeer. We have been inspired by one of his paintings - "Girl with the Pearl Earring".  We have worked with a partner to draw each other. Some children enjoyed posing for their drawing. We have been encouraging each other too.

Year 2 News

Well done to our shinning star this week.

What a great Christmas Make it day the children have had today. The classroom looks festive. We have a few surprises too. All the crafts the children have made will come home on the last day of this term which is the Friday 20th December. The Year 2 staff are really pleased with what the children have produced today. It has been worth all the extra hours the staff have had to put in to ensure that make it day could happen.

Have a lovely weekend. See you on Monday. Remember to read at least once over the weekend. Two new mathletics tasks have been added. Who will be in our top 3 for times tables rock stars?

Year 2 - News

Well done to our shinning star this week.

We have finished our unit on addition and subtraction. The class are excited to start their new unit on money. The children will be counting coins and notes, comparing different amounts of money, find different ways to make the same amount and to work out change. This unit will also build on their skill from the previous units.

We are busy getting ready for our Key Stage One concert. A letter will hopefully be sent home this week with more details.

Remember it is make it day for year 2 on Friday 25th November. After dropping your child off, please go to the main reception as you will need to sign in. Once we have done the register you will join us until 10.30am.

Thanks
