Mini Models news

What an exciting week we have had in Mini Models! We have explored the song '5 currant buns.' We hope that you all enjoyed eating the currant buns you made at nursery and have been practising singing the song at home!

This weeks shining stars were Ellie-May and Teddie. A big thank you to Claire who came along for a stay and play session this week! We hope you enjoyed your afternoon with us.

We have also said 'hello' to Hunter who has joined us in Mini Models, we are so pleased with how well you have settled in Hunter.

Year 4 News

This week the children have been learning about how the Romans built their roads and have been carrying out their own research about Hadrian's wall. During our Maths lessons they have been comparing 4-digit numbers and during their English lessons the children have planned and written their own Beating-the-monster tales to complete our unit on narratives. Next week we shall be starting our unit on non-chronological reports.

Well done to Harvey who was awarded the Golden Star certificate this week. Harvey has been inspired to write his own story at home this week which he read to the class.
Special mentions during Friday's Celebration assembly were given to Alix for trying really hard during English lessons and improving his spelling score this week. Also, Koby was given a special mention for his super use of descriptive vocabulary in his writing this week.

Well done to Libby-Mae, Kaiden and Jake who achieved a Bronze certificate for their participation on Mathletics.

Well done to Sophie, Kenya, Harvey, Kia-Mae, Tyler, Max, Kaiden, Anya, Ava, Eliza, and Tsvetomir who all read daily last week and were entered in to the Reading Raffle.

Each week we have less than half the class reading regularly at home and bringing their reading books and diaries to school.
Please could all parents spend at least 10 minutes listening to their child read daily and ensure books are brought to school each morning.

Well done to Koby, Sophie, Bugsy, Max, Oscar, Jack and Eliza who all achieved full marks in their spelling test.

Homework
A reminder that homework is set on a Friday and needs to be completed by the following Wednesday. Children should have  a purple homework book in which to complete their English homework.

Children are also expected to use Times table Rockstars, Spelling Shed and Mathletics  at least once each week. This week only two members of the class used all three! This is extremely disappointing when there are 30 children in the class. If your child does not have access to a tablet/phone so are unable to access these please make a note in their reading diary and I can arrange for them to use a school ipad during a lunch time so that they do not miss out.

Nursery FS1 Update 😊

We have had a busy time at School and it was Amora and Honey's turn to be a 'Shining Star' this week. They both had a great week exploring lots of shape activities including a Power Maths IWB game. Both girls were able to showcase greater confidence in communicating their thoughts and ideas to the adults around them, absolutely fantastic well done! A huge thank you to Amora and Honey's Mum who were both able to come into School for a 'Stay and Play' session. Both girls really enjoyed sharing our story map with their mums, telling the story with all their friends made it very special. 

                                   

                                     

Year 5 News

First of all, apologies about the mistake on this week's spelling list!  The first word is financial.  Children should have corrected this and hopefully they are already practicing.  I know that Missy and Ellie have already been on spelling shed.  This week, children ave until Sunday to make sure they've played on Spelling Shed, TTRS and Mathletics.

 

Speaking of Mathletics, I hope some of you managed to get to the Mathletics assembly on Monday.  Unfortunately, we missed the assembly as we were swimming but I have filled the children in on what they missed.  The most exciting thing we talked about was the certificates that are available.  Children have from Monday to Sunday to earn 1000 points which will win them a certificate.  Last week, Demi-Jo and Archie each got their certificates.  This week I already have 7 certificates!  I wonder how many we'll have on Monday morning.  The best way to earn points is to use the LEARN section of the site.  Children who complete the homework activity each week will be well on their way to attaining their certificate.  This week's homework is about Roman Numerals.  I have given the children a sheet to help them remember the values of each numeral.  We will also be learning more about rounding so I have suggested to the children to have another go at the rounding game which was last week's homework.

And I'm really impressed with the children's computer skills as they are preparing their Power Point presentations on Natural Disasters.

Year 2

Molly is our shining Star this week. Well done

We have had 14 children in the reading raffle this week. We could have had lots more but they had missed it by one. Remember read at least once over the weekend and then every school night. Fingers crossed for more next week.

We have finished our English work on Defeating a baddie story. The children have written their final story today. On Monday we move on to our next unit of work which is instructions. 

We have been busy this week understanding part, part whole in Maths and how we can use this method to help us with our fact families. Ask the children to show you.

The children will complete their art projects next week. They are very eager to draw a self portrait. Look out next week on the blog I will add their art work.

Year 3 News

What a busy week we had last week! 

We had Mrs Lyons, a teacher from the Academy, who worked with the class on Wednesday morning. They were drawing self portraits and colouring them using water colour crayons. The children's art work will be displayed in Shirebrook Library and then the Four Seasons Shopping Centre in Mansfield.

Year 5 Homework

WOOHOO Year 5!  13 children have done this week's Mathletics homework.  That's the highest number of children to complete their work at this point in any week so far.  If you haven't done it yet, you have tonight to have a go.  Remember to get some paper and a pencil to help you work out the nearest number using a number line like we have in class.
