Year 2 @ The Proact

Year 2 went to 'The Proact' Stadium in Chesterfield on Monday with a focus on this terms History topic. Our history topic this term is 'a change in the local environment.' Within the last 7 years Chesterfield football club has been involved with big changes to the stadium and community projects. So what a good place to begin...

The children began their day, by looking back in time to the previous Chesterfield football ground: Saltergate. The children were shown pictures, videos and discussed the previous grounds with Chesterfield FC in the Community members. The children then got to go on a tour around the new stadium: The Proact. Areas in and around The Proact were shown and discussed with the children. On return to our class base, the children were then able to compare the previous and current football grounds and think about the similarities and differences between them.

After lunch we had a visit from a director of Chesterfield FC, who gave us more historical information about the club and its successes. Then we looked at past and present football shirts and merchandise.

After that we had chance to meet a first team player: Joe Rowsley. The children generated questions for him to answer. The children really enjoyed getting to know about him and having their photograph taken with him.
We had a lovely day! :)

Thank you to all the children for such a lovely day!
Miss Kerry, Mrs Elliott and Miss Honeybun.
