Year 6 SATs

Year 6 SATs 2018

In 2 weeks time (beginning Monday 14th May) the Year 6 children will be sitting their SATs tests during most of the week. Tomorrow I will be sending out an information guide which will tell you all about the tests and what is expected of the children. This information has already been shared with you during Parent/Teacher interviews but the guide will just remind you of how you can help your child during this challenging week.

Please remember that during the next few weeks, it would help your child immensely if they are:

Getting early nights;
Reading regularly;
Eating healthily;
Completing their revision guides, and
Discussing any concerns they have with an appropriate adult.

If you do have any worries or any questions about the tests, please don't hesitate to contact me or the school. Make sure you look out for the SATs information coming home tomorrow and follow the routines above so that the whole testing process runs smoothly and is an enjoyable process for your child.

Many Thanks

Mrs Bush

After School Sports Clubs.

This term we have 4 after School Clubs up and running: Quad kids, Gymnastics, Football and Cricket. The clubs are currently being well attended... keep it up!
Look what the children were getting up to in Gymnastics and Football this week.

The children worked on different football skills and built up to a intra-tournament.

Year 2 Instruction Writing.

Instruction writing has definitely got the year 2's hooked! The children have really enjoyed the practicals that have been carried out alongside their writing. To begin the unit: we made a healthy Rainbow fruit salad, during the unit some children made a Japaneses Butterfly card and to bring the unit to an end, this week we have made our own 'Hot chocolate.'
Having had the opportunity to make a hot chocolate for themselves has had a direct impact on their ability to plan this as an exciting writing piece. I hope that next week the children will produce some pieces of quality writing! Mrs Elliott and I can not wait to read them.

Take a look at some of the photographs taken during our Hot Chocolate practical. In groups the children all contributed to giving a set of verbal instructions, including the features of a good set of instructions (time connectives, adverbs and detail in sentences.)

Shout out to year 2 parents...

This term year 2 are learning about materials. This week we have been learning about what objects are made from and the properties of different materials. If you have any objects at home laying around that your child/ children could bring into school to add to our I-Spy board that would be fantastic! So far on the board we have: a pom pom, ribbon, biscuit cutter, twig, toy car wheel, pipette and a feather. Make sure the objects you send into school are appropriate and safe for the children to handle.
Many thanks, Miss Kerry and Mrs Elliott :)

Year 1 Art

This week the children have enjoyed experiencing making their own printing block to print with. They have also been very busy painting some large flowers. The children worked really carefully and have produced some lovely paintings.

Rosie-Lea has been working really hard in Maths this week using 10p and 1p coins to make different 2-digit numbers.

We had half of the class enter the Reading Raffle. Mathew, Mia-Louise, Gracie-Leigh, Oliwia, Riley G, Mateusz, Lena, Riley P, Jan, Keaton, Livia, Miya, Faith and Daisy.

Year 4 Homework

Dear Parents,

With our topic this term being Italy, I thought it would be nice for the children to have the chance to be creative (like they were during our dragon unit of work).

  The challenge is to research a famous Italian landmark and create a model. This could be
'The Leaning Tower of Pisa',  'The Colosseum' or another they wish to do.

We will be displaying these models outside the classroom for all the school to see. Don't worry, I will be taking photographs of them and posting on here.

Thank you once again for your support in your child's learning,
Mrs Manders, Miss Richardson and Mrs Hallam

Art Club!

Last week saw the start of Art club!
Art club was very popular with 50 replies to 12 spaces! With this in mind we decided to split the club into two 5 week blocks so 24 children could attend. Apologies if your child was not chosen, I'm sure there will be more opportunities.

This week we made our own mosaics. These were made from using lots of tiny squares of paper, it was quite fiddly. Thank you to Mrs Hallam for coming to help!

We thought we would share with you some of the creations we made!

Come back next week to see what we have made!
Miss Whysall and Mrs Bradbury :)
