Year 4 challenge

Please share this blog with your child.

I thought it would be good to set Year 4 a challenge this week with regards to reading at home. Let's see how many children we can get in the reading raffle on Friday and of course we want to see Miss Richardson do her dance- she has been promising for so long now. She will only do it with 23 children reading and bringing in their books. Imagine the delight on her face on Wednesday when she finds the class is on target for her dance....

See you all tomorrow

Year 2 Weekly Update...

Big congratulations to Keagan this week, who was our class certificate winner. Over the past few weeks Keagan has been working hard producing a Fact File about China. He has put in lots of effort and was really proud of his colourful and informative outcome. Well done! Thank you mum for coming to celebrate  his achievement at the assembly.

Also well done to our Pride superstars who achieved their Bronze award this week; reaching 50 pride points: Oscar, Junior, Max, Corey and Jack. Keep up the hard work boys. Let's see who can win the race to 100. :)

River-Lea has been working super hard to achieve her Silver pride award. Well done for reaching 100 pride points this week... next stop 200.
You can do this!

Year 2 have a reading raffle winner... Kenya! Well done for reading every night to be put into the raffle. Also thank you to your parents for their support at home with this. We are very proud of our daily readers in year 2, let's see if we can get more in the raffle after the weeks holiday.

Well...

After being so close in the Autumn term for film and popcorn afternoon for attendance, this term we were driven to achieve it. FINALLY WE DID IT! In our final week, we achieved 2 points making us the awesome attendance winners of the week and of the entire term. What a fantastic way to end a great term, getting cosy in the library watching Mulan whilst nibbling popcorn. The children really enjoyed their afternoon. Mrs Elliott and I are very proud of you! We think you can do it next term too. :)

On return to school, Monday 26th February, your child/ children's topic for learning will be 'Ferocious Fire.' On Tuesday 27th February we have a Fire Safety talk organised within school. Hopefully we can arrange a visit to our local fire station in Shirebrook too at some point throughout the term. I know some children are really looking forward to this topic :)

Over the holiday I have not set homework for the children, due to giving out a selection of Maths and Reading SATs papers at parents evening. Over the holidays please spend some quality time with your child/ children going over some of the papers, so that they get used to the type of questions and the format of the SAT papers. It will really benefit your child/ children working one to one with them. Encourage the children to draw pictures to represent the maths questions to work out the answers. When looking at the reading papers, encourage the children to read the question and look for 'key words' in the text to help them answer the questions. Reading paper 2, has a heavier reading content,  train your child/ children to read only the page needed to answer the questions then move on to further reading and questions. This will be the approach we take to the papers in school too. Let's work together to ensure the children achieve their VERY BEST!

Have a lovely week break. Have fun, stay safe and see you next week.

Year 4

What a busy week we have had. It was Parent/Teacher interviews at the beginning of the week- thank you for coming and seeing myself or Miss Richardson. If you forgot to send in your form, don't worry, we will arrange a time after half term to have a chat about how your child is doing in school and what you can do to help them.

Have a lovely week year 4 but don't forget to keep up the reading and learning your times tables.

Year 1 weekly news

Half term is upon us and we are now half way through the year!

This week the children have been busy writing a report about Barn owls and they have been practising counting in 2s, 5s and 10s during their Maths lessons. We have been learning about Neil Armstrong and the children have enjoyed drawing some space pictures of Neil Armstrong on the moon and  pretending to visit the moon in their space shuttle.

Well done to Mina who received the weekly Pride certificate for her hard work in Maths this week.

Miya, Mia-Louise and Daisy have now achieved their Gold Pride points certificate for earning 200 Pride points since September.

Once again we had 11 children enter the reading raffle this morning but sadly no winners. Entered in the raffle were: Mathew, Mia-Louise, GracieLeigh, Oliwia, Nathan, Keaton, Miya, Faith, Daidy and Layla.

Have a good holiday everyone and don't forget to read, practise your spellings and do your homework!
