Year 3 Golden Assembly Awards

This week Mrs Doyle and I have been really impressed with Ignacy. He has been much more focused in class – especially in his English lessons. It’s been great to see him join in the whole class story map with enthusiasm. This week, he has contributed very valuable ideas, in his group, for suspense story writing. It has been lovely to see Ignacy glow with pride and respond so positively to the praise he has been given this week.

Tillie deserves a special mention for always trying her best in every aspect of her learning as she always has focus and does not fuss. Also this week, Tillie has obviously thought about the golden rule ‘taking care of our school’ because she has been a tidying superstar. She has been a great organiser not only in the classroom but in the corridor too, making sure children’s coats are on their pegs and book bags are in the box. Well done!

Also Jake deserves a special mention this week for making good choices, particularly when choosing who to play with and how to play appropriately at break time and lunchtime. Mrs Doyle and I have noticed this change and are very proud of you for making these choices by yourself with very little encouragement. Well done!

This week Year 3 managed to get 16 readers in the reading raffle - a great job! Lets see if we can improve on this further next week. However, congratulations to both Anya and Koby, who was drawn from the reading raffle, and won themselves a book of their choice.

Yesterday, your children brought home a new set of spellings. This week they are learning the meaning and spelling of homophones and near homophones. The spellings proved tricky last week because not only did the children have to remember how to spell each word but also had to select the correct one to use within a sentence. More practice this week should ensure better results. Also Maths homework has been set. If I could ask for the homework to be returned by Wednesday, it will be possible for me to mark them and send an activity home over the holidays to support their learning.

Tuesday and Wednesday next week is parent/ teacher interviews. Targets will be set for your children and will be shared with you on the evening. It is an opportunity for us to get together and celebrate your children's successes and their next steps to ensure they make good progress throughout the year. Please make an appointment if you haven't yet made one.

Have a lovely weekend, see you Monday.
Miss Kerry and Mrs Doyle :) xx

Year 5 News

Have your children told you about our first Golden assembly?  Grace, Wesley, Molly, Callum, Amelia and Tear all got a special mention, Eric won the first Golden Star award and Boyd won a book in the reading raffle.  On top of all that, Year 5 are the first winners of the transition award!  The children are most excited about being able to sit on the benches in assembly next week.  Can we be good role models when moving around school again next week?  We are working hard to stay on the Golden Door too and enjoy Golden Time.  23 children had 100% attendance this week.  Let's see if we can beat that next week and win our first golden star for attendance.  We had only 14 children in the reading raffle.  Please encourage your child to read over the weekend and each evening so that we can increase our chances next week.

The children did a much better job with their spellings this week. Nearly everyone improved their score from last week and Gracie, Molly, Grace, Eric, Millie, Alfie and Callum were all super spellers.  Next week there will be some more homophones to learn.  Please help your children to learn which spelling is for which definition so that they can be super spellers next Friday.

Our English homework this week focusses on modal verbs which is something we have been working on in school.  We have learnt about so much in maths this week that the homework involves several different activities, some trickier than others.  Please help your child to have a go at the first part of this sheet.  Some children may want to complete the rest of the sheet too. There is also a new game to play on Abacus Active Learn, Bubble Burst.  And don't forget that Times Tables Rock Stars is always waiting for players.  Blake, Grace and Lily won places at the Rock Stars disco on Monday for the fastest time, the most frequent player and the most improved time.  Look out for a battle which could start at any time!

Thanks to Molly, Stan and Eric for returning their completed moon diaries.  They really helped with our work on the phases of the moon this week.  Ask your child if they can name the phase next time they notice the moon in the sky.  They can find some animations to help with this and other space concepts at http://www.childrensuniversity.manchester.ac.uk/learning-activities/science/the-earth-and-beyond/introduction/

I hope you have received your parent teacher interview appointments.  I still have some appointments left if you would like to come and discuss your child's progress at school on Tuesday or Wednesday next week.

Key Stage 2 Basket Ball

Well done to Logan, Will, Heidi, Alfie, Domonik, Stacey, Mia, Harley, Jamaine and Caleb who represented our school at the Basket Ball competition tonight. The team tried really hard but unfortunately we didn't make the final three team places. Model won one game and lost the other. Better luck next time... stay positive. A big thank you to those children who stepped in to make up our team last minute too. It is very much appreciated. Also a HUGE thank you to Caleb's mum and Jamaine's mum and dad who continually show their children and school support by being spectators and with transport.
Always proud of how sportsman like you are. Miss Kerry :)

Year 3 Celebration Assembly WB:28.01.2019

My apologies for not getting these pictures on sooner. Better a little late than never, I'm sure you'll agree :)

A big well done to Kia-Mae our certificate winner this week. She worked extremely hard producing a fantastic poem about 'The thing' during our suspense unit of work. Kia used verbs and adverbs to describe how 'The thing' moved without revealing what it was. Well done! A fantastic piece of work!

Tillie needs to be celebrated having reached 100 pride points - the silver award. She received a certificate and pencil in assembly. Well done - keep up the good work.

A big well done to Harvey and Koby for achieving the Bronze award reaching 50 pride points too. Look how proud they are. Big congratulations.

We are very proud of you all. Miss Kerry and Mrs Doyle :)

Times table Rockstar Day in Year 3

Thank you for supporting your child/ children and the school by dressing up as Rockstars today. In year 3, we have some fantastic outfits... lots of effort and thought have gone into the costumes to celebrate today.
Many thanks again :)

Our class have been working hard to better our pace on timestable Rockstars and up the amount of time we spend on the program to improve our times table performances.

Here are our three class winners - well done Jake, Sophie and Max! Keep up the hard work!
These three children will get to choose a friend and join the Rockstar disco this afternoon to celebrate.

Well done to everyone in year 3 for their efforts and hard work. Don't be disheartened you didn't win this time - be resilient and keep going. Your hard work will pay off eventually.
We are proud of all of you, Miss Kerry and Mrs Doyle :)
