Year 2 update...

On Tuesday we had a band from 'Rock steady' come into school to deliver an assembly. During the assembly the children were encouraged to sing along, clap along to beats and rhythms. The different instruments 'Rock steady' used in their band were discussed. The children learnt lots about the different instruments and had a fantastic time making noise!

Well done this week to our certificate winner Max! Recently Max has been working extremely hard in English. He has made improvements with his handwriting and spelling. However this week Max has raised the bar again and showed me he has lovely ideas and can be resilient when writing independently.
Keep it up Max, you will get chance to show me again next week!

Thank you to mum and grandma for coming to celebrate his achievements with him at Fridays Pride Assembly.

Because all of the year 2's have worked hard this week Mrs Elliott and I rewarded the children with a golden time session. Alfie and Max were very proud of the model of Mc Donalds drive through they made from Lego and asked if I could share it with everyone.

This week in school all of the children have been read with 1-1, also some children have had guided reading sessions. At school the children are very keen to read and really enjoy being listened to by an adult. With SAT's quickly approaching, after the Easter holidays, we can not emphasis enough the importance of reading with your child at home. Not only reading a book, but checking that your child/ children understand what is being read by asking them questions about it. For the past few weeks we have only managed to get 7 out of 29 children in the reading raffle for reading all week. We really need to work together to improve this figure by having quality reading time at home. A big well done to those who do read every night, every week.

This weekend I have sent home a practice SATs reading paper 'Friends'. This paper is worth 5 pride points for your child/ children. Please encourage them to attempt it and support them where is needed. We really are doing this for the best interest of your children, trying our best to prepare them well, for when they do their real SATs in May.👍

Next week we hope to begin a new Design Technology project: making a healthy sandwich. If you are making sandwiches at home, encourage your child to get involved. Talk with them about different sandwich fillings and which are the healthier options.

EXCITING NEWS ALERT!
The children are going to be so excited... we are going to Shirebrook Fire Station on Wednesday 21st March in the afternoon. The children will be walking down to the fire station after their lunch and will return in time for home time. Please look out for a permission slip being sent home on Monday - it must be returned to school ASAP. Sorry that it is short notice but what a great opportunity.
We didn't want them to miss out. I'm sure you will agree!

Friday you received a letter to say next Friday (24th March) is Sports Relief . The children can come in their sports wear and be prepared for sporting events happening throughout the morning, wrapping up with a whole school 'Wake up, Shake up dance' in the hall just before dinner. We are asking for a donation of £1 per child. Also don't forget, on Friday, school will be closing early at 2pm. Collect your children from their classrooms as normal.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
See you next week, Miss Kerry and Mrs Elliott :)
