Year 1 Phonics

This summer the children will be completing the statuary Phonics Screening Test. To prepare the children for the test each week I shall be  sending home  a sheet with words for the children to sound out using their phonics sounds.

On the sheet are real words and alien ( made up) words. Each word has sound buttons to help the children sound out the words. When the children have sounded out the word they have to then blend the sounds and say the word. For example think will be th i nk    think

When the children take the test the words will not have sound buttons to help them so eventually I will send words without sound buttons.

Today your child should have taken home their first sheet of words to practise and also a sheet with the phonics sounds they have been learning and should know by the time they take the test.

Please keep these sheets at home and keep practising with your child. As you are given more sheets could you save these too and again keep practising sounding out and reading the words.

English homework:
I would like the children to practise saying sentences using the real words on the sheet and then practise writing at least 3 sentences using the words in their homework book.
Please encourage children to keep saying their sentence, use their Phonics sheet to help with sounding out words and checking their sentence by reading it back.
