In English, we have begun our shared writing process - together writing a finding tale. The children have magpied some of our class ideas and used them well independently in their own. This morning I have read and marked the shared writing pieces so far...and I a so impressed with the children's efforts and ideas. Keep it up!
This week our topic in Maths has been time. A topic that has seemed to test all children some what this week. It is a topic we will keep revisiting as some concepts are pretty tricky to understand. Well done to all for trying your best and not giving up when you've found something difficult. Mrs Doyle and I are very proud of you!
We have had some great learning going on in the afternoons this week too. On Monday and Wednesday we carried out some ICT work- learning how to use 'Scratch program.' On Monday we learnt the set-up of the Scratch program, what an algorithm is and programmed an image to carry out a set of instructions. Then on Wednesday, we advanced this further learning how to change our 'image' and create a background. We followed picture instructions of how to make a moving fish animation. After this, the children were allowed to explore the program themselves, in pairs, making a moving animation with an image and background they created themselves. Look how focused the children were.
Our Golden Award this week goes to Harvey.
Harvey
has had a fantastic can do attitude this week! He has been motivated and has
tried his best, particularly in English, all week. Each morning Harvey has told
Mrs Doyle and myself ‘I’m going to focus today!’ Harvey’s determination and
motivation to learn has allowed him to move on to brown books in his reading
and produce a great opening and build up in his shared writing. Well done!
Our Special Mentions this week go to: Max and Anya.
To Max for
making excellent contributions to group discussion and offering great examples
of how different types of sentences can be used during our shared writing this
week!
Mrs
Doyle has been very impressed with how Anya has got involved and answered her reading comprehension questions this week. Her answers have been answered in
more detail. Keep it up!
This week we haven't done so well, as a class, getting into the reading raffle. Only 9 children made it in and read each night last week. Can I remind you of the importance of reading daily at home with your child: it builds their reading fluency and pace, give them an opportunity to read and use new words, allows them to ask questions if they don't understand something. Last but not least, they are spending quality time with you - together you are sharing a love for reading with them. If you do it - they will want to do it! I really hope that these numbers can improve this week. We an do it!
Miss Davis and Year 5 are challenging us, ALL of year 3, to a times table battle!
C'mon guys lets beat year 5!
The battle has begun!
See you next week, Miss Kerry and Mrs Doyle :)
