Year 1 - Trip to Chesterfield

On Thursday last week we went on a day of exploring in Chesterfield. We were on the hunt to find out facts about George Stephenson and his connections with the local town of Chesterfield.

We started our day up at chesterfield library, discussing what we already knew about George.

We then headed off to the museum where we read interesting facts about George and even looked at some of the other things he had invented including glass tubes to grow cucumbers in! We thought this was brilliant. We learned that George came to Chesterfield to set up the railway network and to build train tracks.

After that we went to the train station and watched as the trains came in and out of Chesterfield! We waved at all of the passengers and they all waved back - we all smiled so much! There was also a huge statue of George right outside the station. He was a very important man.

We finished our day off at the Holy Trinity Church where we looked at the place where George was buried. Overall we had a really fun day filled with so many facts and lots and lots of walking!
Well done year 1 and thank you to our helpers.
