Year 5 News

I hope everyone is enjoying being back at school and beginning their Year 5 journey.  Here are a few things we've been up to...

We started learning our text map of Jack and the Beanstalk.  Can your child remember any of it and tell it to you?  Our homework this week (due back on Wednesday) will help the children to practice the speech punctuation we have been working on.

We have been learning our first set of year 5 spellings and have practiced them on Spelling Shed.  I hope everyone gets chance to practice over the weekend ready for our test on Friday.

We have been challenge to a battle on Times Tables Rock Stars!  Can we beat year 6?

Everyone has visited the library and chosen a reading book.  I hope they make time to read over the weekend.

We have been using atlases and the internet to find out where different places around the world are.

Have you heard about our new currency?  The children are working hard to save up their smilies to spend in the Model Shop when it opens.  They get one smilie each time they read at home and bring their signed reading diary and their reading book to school.  They get one each time they use all of our technology at home (this week they need to play on Times Tables Rock Stars and Spelling Shed).  They get one just for coming to school!  They get one for staying off the red door.  They get one for completing homework on time.  And there will be many more opportunities too!

Some children already have nearly 20 smilies and are looking forward to collecting more next week.
