Year 5 News

Well done to our certificate winner Kian for his progress in PE this week and to Olivia and Neil who received their 25 Pride Point stickers.  Some children are well on their way to 50 Pride Points - I wonder who will get there first.

Our spelling test results were much improved this week.  Thanks for helping your children practice.  They will have a new set of spellings on Monday ready to learn for the test on Friday so please keep encouraging them to learn how to spell these words at home.

The number of children reading each day has been great just recently.  Thanks for helping us with this.  We were really pleased to put our class record of 22 children into the reading raffle on Friday.  Keep reading Year 5 and let's see if we can get even more of you in next week.  Our record for the number of children reading on one day is 27 out of 29 children.  We just need those extra couple of children to read every day to help us reach our elusive target of 100%.  Come on Year 5 - you can do it!

As you know, we practice our times tables regularly and I love to see the children improve.  This week they've been telling me about what they do at home to get that extra bit of practice too.  Kian has been enjoying using Times Tables Rock Stars.  We have 5 children from our class in the top ten on the stats dashboard with Eric at the top of the list!  Who else can have a go at home to help us knock those pesky Year 6 children out of the top ten?  Children all have their log in details in their reading diaries and can log on here: https://ttrockstars.com/login2 . Peyton has also been telling us about some of the games she's played on Fun 4 The Brain.  Have a look and see what maths skills you can improve using all the games available; https://www.fun4thebrain.com/ .  Let us know if you find any fun maths games too so that we can spread the word.

Don't forget to bring your full PE kits on Monday and your swimming kits on Wednesday.  This week the children will need to bring a pair of pyjamas in their swimming bag for an activity the swimming teachers have got planned!
