Year 5 News

Have you heard all about our Times Tables Rock Stars competition?  Please encourage your children to use Times Tables Rock Stars as much as possible so that they can improve their multiplication and division skills.  There will be rewards for the fastest player, the most improved player and the most frequent player so get playing!  It looks like some of the children have challenged their classmates to a Rock Slam.  Have a look at this feature to earn more points!  I'm also trying to set up a battle and will let you know when it starts so keep an eye out for this.

If your child fancies a break from Times Tables Rock Stars, they could have a go on our latest Abacus game, Reel It In.  Grace, Eric and Boyd have already played.  Who will join them?

There is also some Maths homework this week to help consolidate our work on multiples, factors, prime numbers, composite numbers and square numbers.

Children could also have a look online at the National Space Centre website in preparation for our visit on Tuesday.

A polite reminder to the few children who haven't yet brought their forms or money in that they will need to do this by Tuesday.  And here are a few things for everyone to bear in mind...

  • Please arrive at school by 8:30 so that we can complete the register and check that everyone has everything they need ready for our departure at 8:45.
  • Children do not have to wear school uniform but should wear clothing suitable for a day out.  We will be indoors but as the space centre has lots of high ceilings, it can get cool.
  • I recommend that children bring a coat (just in case!) but they will have to leave this on the bus.
  • Don't forget to bring your lunch (no glass bottles please) unless you have ordered one from the school kitchen.
  • Our lunch boxes will be looked after by the centre during the morning and the afternoon.
  • Our lunch slot is scheduled for 1:00 so make sure you have a good breakfast (Year 5 usually eat lunch at 12:00!).
  • If children bring spending money (no more than £3 please), there will be the opportunity to visit the gift shop and buy a souvenir or two.  Children will be responsible for their own spending money.  It's best to send this in a money bag, purse or wallet which the children can keep with them.  Please don't put the money in your child's coat or lunch box as they won't have these with them when we visit the shop!
  • We should be back at school for 3:30.  If our arrival is delayed, we will try to let you know.
The children are very excited about the trip, as are we!
