Year 2 News...

Well done everyone another good week for attendance in year 2. This week wasn't quite as good as last week, but we still managed to acquire a point for the balloon attendance race. We are all motivated in year 2 and hoping that this term we can hold on to the lead and earn ourselves a film and popcorn afternoon :)

This weeks certificate winner was Sophie! She achieved the class certificate this week for engaging regularly with Abacus Evolve as part of her homework task. Well done!
Also well done to Jacob and Max in year 2 for reaching 50 pride points and receiving their bronze certificates in Pride Assembly yesterday.
Max was also lucky to be pulled out the reading raffle lucky dip. He chose a book to take home called 'Dinosaur cove.' Happy reading :)

Please can I ask parents/ carers and family members to sign your child/children's reading dairies on the day that they have read. In year 2, we are having many families back date the whole week and it makes it very difficult to monitor within school. Remember that this is a  reading incentive in the hope to encourage your child to daily, and therefore those children that achieve this should be put in the raffle.

This week in Maths we have been learning about 3D shapes. We have been learning: their names, how many faces, vertices and edges they have. The children used 3D shapes to work independently to work out different 3D shape properties. The majority of the children can confidently tell you the number of faces, but we need more practice exploring vertices and edges.

Later in the day Tyler came to me to tell me he had found a cylinder in the classroom. Well done!
I wonder how many more shapes we could find in the classroom?

This week in year 2 we have been using the notebooks. We have learnt how to use Microsoft Publisher program to publish information and poems around our topic China. The children have experienced: typing, selecting boarders/ fonts and size of their lettering as well as learning how to edit a picture from clip art. The children really had fun doing this and have asked if they can do it again soon. Maybe if you have access to this at home your child/ children could practice and maybe show you how to use it :)

Have a lovely weekend. Remember to read to an adult and practice your spellings over the weekend.
Thank you, Miss Kerry and Mrs Elliott :)
