Year 5 News

Wow!  What a big improvement in our spelling test scores this week.  Look how many super spellers we had today with full marks on the test...

Gracie
Oskar
Molly
Grace Bu
Eric
Amelia
Tear
Julia
Sonny
Blake
and last but not least Peyton

I wonder who can join them next week.

And in more good news, McKenzie won a book in the reading raffle and Lily won the certificate for her hard work in maths this week.  Not only has she worked hard to solve her own problems but she helped another child who had been absent earlier in the week, showing her understanding by explaining the method she was using.

This week's homework involves doubling and halving and using this skill to multiply and divide by 4 and by some even larger numbers.  Multiplying by 25 has really challenged us.  If your child is struggling, remind them to multiply by 100, then divide by four by halving and halving again.  Knowing pairs of doubles and halves is a useful skill so it would be great if your child could keep practicing these at home too.  There is also a homework task focussing on capital letters.  Proper nouns always need capital letters.  These include names of people, towns, cities, shops, countries, planets, days of the week, months of the year, etc.

The children have enjoyed a game we played today to help with column subtraction.  If they want to play at home, you can find it here;

They have also been given their Times Tables Rock Stars usernames and passwords.  To play, go to;

https://play.ttrockstars.com/

Login and you will find that the tables are set ready for your child to play.  Enjoy!
